Blasting an opening into the Christmas season with plenty of bass and launching International Dub Gathering 2020, we are looking ahead to have some of the biggest international names on the dub scene in the house. Musik Loppen will be the home for the festival once again – both indoor and outside where Freetown Soundsystem 12V will provide us with tunes during the afternoon – real street dub style!

In 2017 Barcelona dub producer Chalart58 performed at Rototom’s Dub Academy with a quartet of female special guests: Awa Fall, Matah, Belén Natali, and High Paw. The following year they appeared at International Dub Gathering and were headlining the Lion Stage at Rototom Sunsplash in August this year. Expect powerful live performances from their 2018 collaboration release on La Panchita Records, showcasing the diverse range of female artistic expression in the reggae and dub arena!

Alpha Steppa music producer, internationally touring performer, founder of Steppas Records, Trigram & DUBPL8 and 1/3 of Dub Dynasty (w/ Alpha & Omega).

As the son and nephew of respected dub heavyweights Alpha & Omega, Alpha Steppa has been surrounded by soundsystem and dub plate culture from a young age. Now a talented producer in his own right, his productions connect the dots between the music which he has grown up around and the new generation of UK bass music of which he is a part. His dubbed out style draws upon the sounds of his musical heritage, filtered through an exploration of reggae, electronic music, world music and sound therapy.

Alpha Steppa’s Steppas Records, established in 2010, is an independent hands-on record label, specialising in conscious soundsystem music with a deep roots foundation. Working with unknown artists as well as some of the most established in the scene, including Gregory Isaacs, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry and Mad Professor, the unique dubbed out style of Steppas Records draws upon the sounds of Jamaican Roots, UK Dub and World Music filtered through an exploration of the newer sounds of contemporary bass music.
An international, intergenerational, multicultural gathering for bass music and soundsystem lovers to experience music they love with no hype, no ego and no distractions. A chance for fans of Soundsystem Culture to join the Conscious Bass Music Movement. All Tribes Welcome.

One of the most eagerly anticipated albums of the year ‘Alpha Steppa Meets Nai-Jah: The Great Elephant’ which is the product of a year-long collaboration between renowned UK Dub Reggae producer Alpha Steppa and Nigerian-French singer / songwriter Nai-Jah. The album tells the story of Nai-Jahʼs reality growing up in Nigeria, the album paints a picture of corruption, greed, and suffering, a narrative each and everyone across the globe can relate to.

At this festival Alpha Steppa will bring along Nai-Jah as well as Surinamese singer Ras Tinny who’s best known for the album ‘Alpha & Omega Meets Ras Tinny: No Beginning No End’ (2016, Steppas Records). The album is a nod to the classic Alpha & Omega sound yet illustrates their forward thinking and distinctive outlook on reggae music. Featuring the unique vocal stylings and astoundingly intelligent lyrics of Surinamese singer Ras Tinny. He is best known for his collaborations with Dub Dynasty, Alpha Steppa and Alpha & Omega, Ras Tinny says:
“I am Tinny, living on the wild west coast of Ireland. I do hope that the music I play and the lyrics I write reflect my vocation and the teachings of my elders: ‘Jah help I&I to uplift the poor and Itect the environment’ And so I hope we will link soon, between the sounds of the bass and the drum beats – inna perfect love – Jah Bless you.”
