SANKT HELL and Musik Loppen presents: SANKT HELL 2019

(For Danish version, please see www.loppen.dk/kalender/sankt-hell-2019)

It’s finally that time of the season – time for the most devilish Christmas holiday party of them all, Sankt Hell! Just like the previous years, we will present a big line-up in those hellhole days between Christmas and New Years, to really shake things up. This year you can look forward to get your eardrums burst by hard hitting Scandinavian acts such as:

FIREBREATHER (SE)
Relatively new to the fold having formed in the spring of 2016, Firebreather is a devastatingly weighty statement of intent. Tooth shattering riffs from guitarist/vocalist Mattias Nööjd and crunching rhythms via bassist Kyle Pitcher and drummer Axel Wittbeck, Firebreather are a jaw-breaking triptych of sludge and doom rock. With a band this sludgy you wouldn’t expect hooks aplenty, yet this shit is catchier than The Clap and downright fatal if you catch it.

Besvärjelsen (SE)
Besvärjelsen – Swedish for conjuring – was forged in 2014. Though clearly rooted in the realms of doom, within their engulfing sound lies traces of progressive metal, punk, folk, and classic rock’n’roll all carefully weaved together resulting in a sound that is at once crushingly heavy and alluringly sophisticated. The band released their debut EP Villfarelser in 2015 which was followed by 2016’s Exil EP which was the first recording with drummer Erik Bäckwall (ex Dozer, ex Greenleaf). Both releases, though self-financed and released with little outside promotion, were well received by Swedish media and even found airplay on Swedish National Radio.

(0) 0BandOfficial (DK)
(0) have to be one of the best-kept secrets of the Danish underground – very few bits of information can be gathered online with the spelling parentes0parentes, but still, the musicians choose to remain nameless – choosing to have their harsh and extreme soundscapes speak for them. Their self-titled debut EP was initially released in 2017 and tested the boundaries of black metal, progressive metal, drone and post metal on four long tracks – a demanding and multi-faceted affair reveling in cascades of blackened rage and bleak melancholy. Napalm Records will reissue (0) in the winter of 2019

Alkymist (DK)
Alkymist is a new force in doom metal – a force which, in its own manner, seeks to bring the hope of change into a time of turmoil. The band was formed in 2016 by guitarist Stefan Krey (Gas Giant) and bass player Kaspar Luke (Düreforsög) with the intention of creating the heaviest possible music within a progressive and atmospheric universe. In 2017, the line-up was completed by singer Peter Bjørneg (Detest) and drummer Philip Kjær Morthorst (The Ritual) and, subsequently, the quartet recorded the debut EP ‘Element’, which was released January 2018. The EP’s inspired and original approach to progressive sludgy doom, as well as the mystical and minimalistic visual aesthetics, created a buzz in the Danish scene, where expectations for the bands 2018 debut release was notable.

NYT LIV (DK)
Copenhagen based hardcore combo Nyt Liv was formed in 2016 and subsequently recorded the debut EP ‘Livet Brænder’ (‘Life is Burning’), which was released August 2017. Following the release came an busy 2018 during which the band made a mark with performances at big Danish Festivals such as Roskilde, Copenhell and Aalborg Metal Festival. Nyt Liv is a flock of experienced musicians from the Danish hardcore and metal scene in which the members has recorded and toured with a string of powerful acts. The merits of the members are showing in a focused songwriting and sound as well as in the band’s energetic and confrontative shows that are equally solid entertainment and indignant catharsis, depending on what you seek to extract from a hard hitting rock performance.
