Each day of the Freetown Festival, celebrating the 50th birthday of Christiania, has its own musical theme and focus, presented by international collaborators and local expert music curators on 21 stages, big and small, in all areas of Christiania.

Wednesday (Sept 22nd 2021) is kick-off day with a colourful parade, celebrating diversity and freedom, marching through Copenhagen from Christiania to the town hall at the city centre and back, attended by a multitude of groups and artists who have been part of the Christiania art scene from the very beginning in the 1970s.

Thursday (Sept 23rd 2021) focuses on indie/alternative music presented by friends of Christiania: Roskilde Festival hosts a scene dedicated solely to upcoming bands at the O-Land stage by Operaen. Balstyrko (DK) will be headlining at the Underland Stage at 18.30. And Distortion Festival will add their powerful magic to the vibe, while Science & Cocktails kicks off their three-day programme of brain-tickling knowledge, and the light wizards from Hackstage make the buildings and creatures of Christiania come alive at dusk.

Friday (Sept 24th 2021) is all about reggae, r’n’b and hip hop with names like Bikstok Røgsystem (DK), Klumben & Raske Penge (DK), Wafande (DK) and Benny Jamz (DK) – and the Vanguard Festival hosting their own stage for eight hours. Enjoy the unfolding of the mind-blowing artworks by hundreds of top class graffiti artists hosted by Meeting of Styles, and watch out for streetdance battles every day and pop-ups by some of the world’s most amazing dancers.

Saturday (Sept 25th 2021) is dedicated to electronic music: The Wonderland Stage will be hosted by Bas Under Buen by day (15:00-23:00) and by Drum & Bass Klubben by night (23:00-03:00). The Fusion Festival joins the Freetown Festival from Germany, curating a scene of exquisite techno with Sven Dohse (DE), Der Dritte Raum (DE), Marcus Carp (DE) and Bassphilia (DE) headlining. KoxBox (DK), Eat Static (UK), Emok (DK) and Ryder (DK) will send everyone to outer space and back at the PsyLand Stage, while Vini Vici (IL), Phaxe (DK), Morten Granau (DK) and Freetown4Real (DK) will draw the crowds at Fredens Eng. Kruder & Dorfmeister (AT), Lulu Rouge (DK) and Lucy Love (DK) will be amongst the big names playing at the Underland Stage by Loppen.

Sunday (Sept 26th 2021) is for families and for chilling out: The last day of the festival unfolds some proper birthday celebration vibes with free entry for everyone, focusing on family friendly activities, communal breakfast, circus shows, dancing and mellow(ish) daytime concerts from legends like Stig Møller (Steppeulvene), who has been playing at every Christiania birthday since the 1970s.

There’s much, much more to come. Check out, and in the following months for many more updates on the lineups presented by all Christiania’s legendary concert venues like Loppen, Operaen, Månefiskeren, Christiania Jazz Club og Nemoland – just to mention a few.

Get your tickets at One day tickets are 300 DKK. Partout tickets are 750 DKK. All profits from the festival will go directly to next year’s Freetown Festival and the artistic workspaces of Christiania.
